Backdoor Read
A wing tries to get open against a denying defender with the guard on top. When the defender overplays the passing lane, the wing plants and cuts backdoor for the bounce pass; when the defender sags, the wing pops out and catches on the wing. The defender chooses, the offense reads.

Coaching points
- Read the defender's hand and foot in the lane: overplay means backdoor.
- The backdoor cut is sudden: plant the outside foot, then sprint, don't drift.
- Passer: bounce pass to the cutter's outside hand, past the defender's back foot.
- Against a sag, pop out and catch ready to shoot or drive.

- W cuts to the right wing
- P passes to W

Variations
- Defender plays live and chooses each rep; the offense scores a point for a correct read.
- Run it from the other wing and from the corner.
- Add a high-post player: the backdoor pass comes from the elbow.
