Closeout 1-on-1
The defender starts under the basket with the ball, passes to the attacker at the elbow and closes out. They play 1-on-1 with at most two dribbles; the rep ends when the defender boxes out and takes the rebound, then the attacker becomes the next defender.

Coaching points
- Leave on the pass and sprint, then short choppy steps the last few metres.
- High hand at the shooting hand, weight back so a drive does not get by you.
- Arrive under control: fly past the attacker and he has a free drive.
- Contest, then find your man and box out before you look for the ball.
- Take the rebound at its highest point and chin it.

- D cuts
- O shoots
- D cuts
3Phase 3
On the miss D goes and gets it with two hands and gives it to O, who has gone to the baseline: O passes to N and closes out on the next rep. D joins the elbow line.
- O cuts
- D passes to O

Variations
- No dribble: the attacker must shoot on the catch, the defender scores a point for every box out and rebound.
- Two lines at both elbows and a second defender: the passer chooses a side, 2-on-2 to a rebound.
