Post Defense Positions
Four perimeter passers move the ball around one post player. The post defender changes position on every pass: high side with the ball up top, three-quarter on the wing, step through to the baseline side on the corner pass, sink to help on the reversal, then bump the post's flash cut back to the ball side.

Coaching points
- Move on the flight of the pass, not on the catch.
- Step through in front of the post on the corner pass, never around behind him, or he seals you.
- Arm bar on the body, the ball-side arm in the lane with the thumb down.
- On the weak side, sit in the middle of the lane and see both your man and the ball.
- Meet the flash cutter early with a bump: a wall, not a weapon, no grabbing.
Phase by phase
1Phase 1
Ball to the wing. X steps with the foot nearest the ball into a three-quarter position on the high side: arm in the passing lane, thumb down, other forearm on the post.
- T passes to W
- X cuts to the right block
2Phase 2
Ball to the corner. X steps through in front of the post to the baseline side, so the post never gets a seal, and denies from below.
- W passes to K
- X cuts to the right dunker
3Phase 3
Ball back out and swung to the far wing. X steps back up to the high side, then sinks to help with a foot on the middle of the lane, seeing ball and man.
- K passes to W
- X cuts to the right block
- W passes to T
- T passes to L
- X cuts to the rim
4Phase 4
P flashes to the ball-side block. X meets him in the lane with an arm bar and a bump to knock him off his path, then takes the high side three-quarter again.
- P cuts to the left block
- X cuts to the left block
- L passes to Poption
Variations
- Front the post fully when the ball is on the wing and add a weak-side defender to cover the lob.
- Go live 1-on-1 the moment the ball gets into the post.
- Run it on both blocks so both sides get the work.
