Chase-Down Layups

Coaching points
- Attack the rim on a straight line; drifting wide lets the chaser catch up.
- Finish high and soft off the glass at full speed, no slowing to aim.
- Chaser sprints to the ball side and contests with one hand, from behind, without contact.
- Adjust the head start so both players win sometimes.
Phase by phase
1Phase 1
The attacker breaks for the basket and the coach leads him with a pass. The chaser may only go when the ball leaves the coach's hands.
- O cuts
- C passes to O
- D cuts
2Phase 2
Speed dribble in a straight line to the rim and finish high off the glass. The chaser runs to the ball side and contests with the hand nearest the ball, without fouling.
- O dribbles to the right block
- O shoots
- D cuts
3Phase 3
The chaser rebounds and passes to the coach. Both jog back on the outside and switch lines; the next pair goes.
- D passes to C
- D cuts
- O cuts
Variations
- Run it from the left side for left-hand finishes.
- Shrink the head start each round.
- If the chaser touches the ball, he gets a point; a make is a point for the attacker.
