Form Shooting
One-hand shots from right in front of the rim, moving back one step at a time only as long as the form holds. A partner under the basket rebounds and passes back. The aim is a repeatable motion, not distance.

Coaching points
- Feet shoulder-width, shooting-side foot a little ahead, toes to the rim.
- Elbow under the ball, wrist bent back, ball on the finger pads, not the palm.
- Shoot up, not out: a high arc and a soft follow-through held until the ball lands.
- Move back only when the form holds; a miss is a cue to step closer.
Phase by phase
1Phase 1
One step from the rim, shooting hand only: elbow under the ball, wrist cocked, finish with the hand in the cookie jar.
- S shoots
2Phase 2
Partner rebounds and passes back. One step further: same motion, legs give the extra power, not the arm.
- S cuts to the high post
- R passes to S
- S shoots
3Phase 3
Move back only after three makes in a row. Add the guide hand now, on the side of the ball, doing nothing.
- S cuts to the high post
- R passes to S
- S shoots
4Phase 4
Change the angle: same distance from the right side of the rim. Square the feet to the basket before you shoot.
- S cuts
- R passes to S
- S shoots
Variations
- Eyes-closed shots from one step out: feel the motion.
- Swish only: a shot that touches the rim does not count.
- Older players: add a hop into the shot from a pass.
