Help and Recover 2-on-2
The guard's defender has to touch a cone before he can defend, so the guard gets a free drive. The big's defender must stop the ball without giving up the dump-off, then get back to his man while the beaten defender sprints to catch up.

Coaching points
- Helper: stop the ball before it reaches the paint, chest to the driver, hands shown so there is no foul.
- Beaten defender: sprint, do not trail; the faster you get back, the sooner your helper can go home.
- Recover on the pick-up or the moment your teammate is back, not later.
- Talk the whole time: I've got ball, go home.
- Choose: full help, a stunt and back, or switch; the drill rewards the choice that kills the advantage.
Phase by phase
1Phase 1
XG slides to touch a cone. G attacks the space he left. XB leaves the big early and stops the ball before the paint: chest to the driver, hands up and visible.
- XG cuts
- G dribbles to the nail
- XG cuts to the top
- XB cuts to the high post
2Phase 2
The drive is stopped and XG has caught up. XB recovers to the big the moment XG is back on the ball; both defenders talk.
- XG cuts to the high post
- XB cuts to the right block
- G passes to Boption
Variations
- Start the guard under the rim with the defender trailing, dribble around a cone on the weak-side wing, the second attacker in the corner.
- Let the helper switch onto the driver while the beaten defender takes the big.
