Coaching points

  • Jump stop: both feet land together, shoulder-width, knees bent, chest up.
  • Once you stop, either foot can pivot; choose one and keep it down.
  • Front pivot leads with the chest, reverse pivot with the back; practise both.
  • Ball stays tight at the chest with the elbows out while you pivot.

Phase by phase

  1. ABC

    1Phase 1

Dribble out to the cone and land on both feet at once, knees bent, ball protected at the chest. B steps onto the baseline and shows a target.

    • A dribbles to the left elbow
    • B cuts to the left dunker
  2. ABC

    2Phase 2

Pivot to face the line: one foot stays nailed to the floor. Then a chest pass to B, and jog to the back of the line on the outside.

    • A passes to B
    • A cuts to the left corner
    • C cuts to the left short corner
  3. ABC

    3Phase 3

B goes: this time a stride stop (right foot, left foot) and a reverse pivot. Alternate the stop and the pivot every rep.

    • B dribbles to the left elbow
    • C cuts to the left dunker
    • B passes to C

Variations

  • No ball first: run, stop on the coach's call, pivot.
  • Catch a pass from the coach on the move, then stop and pivot.
  • Two or three lines side by side so everyone gets more reps.

Run it, tilt it, change it to fit your practice.
