Reverse Layup Series

Cones at the elbow and just outside the block keep the driver out of the lane, so he has to go baseline, under the rim and finish on the far side with the outside hand, using the rim as a shield. Then the same from the left.

Coaching points

  • Come in with enough speed to carry you past the rim, along the baseline.
  • Outside hand on the far side: the rim stands between the ball and the shot blocker.
  • Look up for the top of the square and get the ball high on the glass.
  • No fancy spin: a soft touch off the board is enough.

Phase by phase

  1. RL

    1Phase 1

Right side: around the outside of both cones and along the baseline, under the rim. Jump off the right foot and lay it high off the glass with the left hand on the far side.

    • R dribbles to the rim
    • R shoots
  2. RL

    2Phase 2

Left side, mirrored: baseline under the rim, off the left foot, right hand on the right side. Know where you are; don't run out under the board.

    • L dribbles to the rim
    • L shoots
    • R cuts to the left slot

Variations

  • Move the cones to change the angle: from the corner, from the wing, from the top.
  • Start with a dribble move at the top before attacking the cones.
  • Advanced: inside-hand reverse, off the outside foot, body at an angle to the board, ball high off the glass.

Run it, tilt it, change it to fit your practice.
