Coaching points
- Triple threat: you can shoot, pass or drive from the same stance; the defender can't know which.
- Jab short and quick, about a foot, with the weight staying on the pivot foot.
- Read the defender's feet: no reaction means go, a step back means shoot.
- On the drive, the first step goes past the defender's hip, ball pushed out low.
Phase by phase
1Phase 1
V-cut to get open, catch with both feet ready, and pivot to face the rim: ball on the hip, knees bent, eyes on the rim. That is triple threat.
- P cuts to the right wing
- C passes to P
2Phase 2
Short, quick jab at the defender's front foot. He doesn't react: same foot goes again, past his hip, and one long dribble to the baseline and the rim.
- P cuts to the right wing
- P dribbles to the right dunker
- P shoots
3Phase 3
Next rep: the jab makes the defender drop back. Bring the jab foot back, rise straight into the jumper.
- P cuts to the right wing
- P cuts to the right wing
- P shoots
Variations
- Add the crossover counter: jab right, cross the ball and the jab foot over, drive left.
- A live defender who has to guess, played 1-on-1 with two dribbles maximum.
- From the left wing, jab with the other foot.
